BENEFITS OF DISC/HOE OPENERS

The Disc/Hoe opener can place the seed and fertilizer with a single opener in one pass. It has 1.5” vertical and approximately 1.25” horizontal separation. The vertical separation can be adjusted as the disc wears down.

It creates a very firm, clean seed bed and because the seed boot is carving the seed bed, hair pinning has been eliminated in the seed bed. Seeding in very wet straw you may get some hair pinning with the disc as it cuts the furrow for the fertilizer, but the seed bed will stay clean.

The seed bed width is approximately 1.25” wide and the seeds are spread across the whole area giving you better support for the swath at harvest time.

The opener gives you just a bit of disturbance to give the field a black ribbon to warm up the seed bed. This system results in very quick and even germination.

Most of our Disc/Hoe customers have cut back their canola seed pounds per acre because of the high percentage of germination. They have reported increased yields per acre in side by side tests that they have done between hoe drills and the Disc/Hoe openers.

The Disc/Hoe openers handle the straw residue so well that in most cases there is no need to harrow before seeding thus reducing your fuel cost and giving you those extra hours to spend in your seeder instead of the harrowing.

The Disc/Hoe opener also preforms accurate seed placement at the recommended speed of 6.5 mph. With the increased seeding speeds of the Disc/Hoe openers you will be able to cover the same amount of acres per day with a 40′ as you would with a 55’ to 60’ hoe drill and you have fewer openers to maintain and adjust.

The adjustments on the Disc/Hoe opener are very simple and all the adjustable parts are locked up tight when seeding. The discs and bearings are available at your local farm part suppliers. We do carry some inventory as well.
